Funny, it never occurred to me that I was a tech kinda guy. Certainly I never perceived myself as geeky, yet here I am wanting to share with you the social media service Foursquare.
I was introduced to Foursquare by one of our intern students from Sheridan, and I have really enjoyed the process of logging in, adding venues, check-ins and sharing my location and events on twitter.
Foursquare is a social networking website and mobile program, that is location based and is a great sharing opportunity. Headquartered in New York City, Dennis Crowley and Naveen Selvadurai created it. It was launched in March of 2009 and is currently privately held; although I understand Yahoo is pursing it.
Once you register, you can check – in anywhere, add venues, you can share with your twitter and or Facebook accounts. Points are awarded for every check-in, badges and if you are the person with the most check-ins at a specific location you are known as the Mayor. You can post tips, specials, likes and dislikes.
Foursquare has a mobile application for the iPhone, Android, Windows phone 7, BlackBerry as well at the net.
Foursquare is growing, it's fun, and it’s got great marketing opportunities, notably for specials and events. You can find me as Michael Bickerton, currently with 4 Mayorships. As your digital agency I’d suggest that you check out and check-in at Foursquare. Looks like it can’t miss check out the video.

Jeff, correct you are, Facebook Places is going to put pressure on Foursquare and push this form of mobile marketing even further. It's wise to note that Foursquare was part of the Places launch with Facebook and they are working together in this area. Wouldn't surprise me at all if they fully co-operate in building this media. Noteworthy as well is the fact that Yahoo has been actively working on purchasing Foursquare, so the fun is just beginning. As usual, transition and change in the digital arena is constant.

Four Square has trouble on the horizon... Last night, Facebook announced the launch of Facebook Places at our headquarters in Palo Alto, California. I wanted to reach out to you, a valued advertiser, with information about our new product and how it can benefit your brand. Facebook Places is a new product that allows users to share where they are, find out where their friends are, and discover interesting places nearby. Facebook Places also allows businesses to establish Places (physical store locations) on Facebook and then encourage patrons to share where they are by âchecking inâ to their Place. Check-in stories can generate powerful, organic impressions in friendsâ News Feeds, extending your brandâs reach to many potential new customers.
